​About the B.Sc. Degree Program

The aim of the degree programme is to educate students to become nurses (RN) in the field of health care. Nurses protect, promote, and support in the prevention of illness and injury. The nurse is an expert who carries out and develops nursing independently and in multidisciplinary teams. At Dr. Vimal College of Nursing, students learn to develop strong interpersonal skills and social skills to succeed in their career life. The studies provide students with the skills needed in varied health care settings.


Nurses should support patients in their health and wellbeing promotion, maintenance of health, and care for them in a holistic way throughout the lifespan. During this programme, the latest research and evidence-based nursing practice will be integrated in to professional skills.

Nursing Studies

The studies consist of basic studies, core studies and supervised clinical practices. Our focus is on evidence based clinical nursing where you strengthen your clinical skills required in your future profession. Before clinical practices you will practice your practical skills in laboratories, simulated learning environments with diverse methods and modern equipment.

Clinical TrainingSt. Theresa Hospital (own) + Govt. Vellore Medical College & Hospital

Your will study full-time and usually on weekdays. Your studies will include theoretical teaching, various practical assignments, web-based studies, independent and group studies and various workshops. You will also carry out written assignments in each course.

​Eligibility Requirements

We offers a limited number of seats in B.Sc. Nursing seats to those who meet the eligibility requirements. Qualifying Nursing students will be admitted to experience classes at our premises.

 

General criteria as follows,    

  • Applicants should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December on the year of admission.
  • Candidates belonging to OC / BC / BCM / MBC / DNC should not have completed 30 years of Age as on 31st December 2024. For SC/SCA/ST candidates should not have completed 35 years as on 31st December 2024
  • Only unmarried applicants are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants belonging to OC / BC / BCM / MBC / DNC, should have successfully completed 12 years of school studies with minimum aggregate marks of 45% in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology) individually at the final qualifying examination in Tamil Nadu.
  • Applicants belonging to SC / SCA / ST, should have successfully completed 12 years of school studies with minimum aggregate marks of 40% in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology) individually at the final qualifying examination in Tamil Nadu.
  • Applicants who have passed any other equivalent examinations with the same subjects mentioned above shall submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University before admission.

Key Learning Outcomes

The students are prepared to become professional nurses, who are able to plan, implement and develop nursing practices in a multi professional healthcare team. Nurses are trained to promote health and prevent diseases, provide care, support, guidance and rehabilitation. The graduates from our college can operate flexibly in a multi-professional, while promoting health and providing hospice care to individuals, families and communities. 


The overall learning outcome of the Degree Programme is that the student posses extensive professional knowledge in nursing and are able to critically apply their knowledge in the diverse, changing and digital environments. They can comply with ethical principles and are able to assume responsibility for developing themselves and their field of work as a nursing professional in a multiprofessional and multicultural team.

Clinical Practice

About half of the nursing studies consists of clinical practice, which mostly takes place in various care and operating environments in our own hospital, St. Theresa Hospital, Vellore Government Medical College and Hospital and private health care sectors. There are clinical practice periods in every year. 

Implementation of the Studies

The studies are very practically-oriented and contain lectures, exams, group work, online studies, practical training that promotes vocational skills and participation in working-life projects. We offer modern healthcare lab environments where you learn skills, knowledge and decision-making together with our teachers, experts and fellow multi-professional students.

Study Content

The studies are based on nursing sciences as well as on other supporting scientific fields, such as medical, community or social sciences. 

  • The first year studies focuses on basics of nursing, social and health care environments, wellbeing, health promotion and functional ability.
  • During the second and third year, the studies consist of different nursing areas based on theoretical and clinical nursing competences which enhances clinical decision making, guidance and counselling skills, evidence based practice, as well as quality assurance and patient safety issues. 
  • During the fourth year students are able to deepen their professional competence. The students at this point strengthens their knowledge in leadership and management as well. The students also deepen their ethical and professional competences at the final stage of the education.
